| | | Hay Fields In West Virginia | | I was raised on a farm. We plowed our gardens and harvested our hay with a horse. It was a lot different than the tractors and mowers of today.
We would cut the hay. Let it dry. Then we would rake it up and put it in a hay stack. It seems like I was always the one that had to get on top of the hay stack and tramp it down.
This photo is of a local hay field. It is beautiful and the work is so much easier than days gone by.

| Champe Rocks in West Virginia | | Champe Rocks are located in west virginia not too far from Seneca Rocks. They too are a challenge to climb. It was here that General Washington send Mr Champe to kidnap Benedict Arnold. The plot almost worked.
I have enclosed a photo of champ rock. You will notice that it is two rocks facing each other.
| | Touring West Virginia | | Last week our oldest daughter was home. She wanted to take her kids to some of the places she went as a child. We went to Seneca Rocks and hiked up the hill for one and a half miles. The hill was straight up. I have added a photo of Seneca Rock. It is well known for climbing because it presents the biggest challenge to climb in the Eastern US.
Have you ever been to Seneca Rock? What kind of cool places do you have to visit in your area of the world?
| | Cheney's West Virginia Incest Joke - NOT FUNNY!! | | I must say our VP D1ck Cheney is one funny guy! http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hTcZaOB7rKgkFBB7zChrUK_JXMMgD9127NVO0Here's an excerpt which pretty much sums up the incident:Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family."And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped."You can say those things when you're not running for re-election."I understand he's now apologized for this insensitive remark but if I were from West Virginia that apology wouldn't be good enough and I'd certainly remember that when I went into the voting booth even if Cheney's name isn't on the ballot! Any thoughts? I'd really like to hear from West Virginians on this!

| Richard Cheney's bad joke on West Virginia | | Question: Vice Pres Richard Cheney made a joke like this: He found out both his father's and mother's sides had a Cheney. Then he said they didn't even live in West Virginia. That comment drew criticism and later he apologized. He must have referred to some incidents in West Virginia. What is it?http://shiminson.blogspot.com/2008/06/richard-chenys-joke-what-does-it-mean.html | |
| | Pat Conroy books causing an uproar in West Virginia school district | | http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071107/ap_on_re_us/book_battleThe article is there, basically discussing some censorship issues in West Virginia over 2 books parents deem inappropriate for their underage children. Students in the AP classes where the book is being assigned are enraged that the school district is trying to censor a book used in a class that they CHOSE to take. I think the students are right in this case, how about you guys? | |
| | Open season on political incumbents | | http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/05/19/preston.primaries.analysis/Washington (CNN) -- So much for political kingmakers and the machine, at least in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. National and statewide political officials and operatives watched their chosen candidates fall Tuesday in two separate primaries with two different narratives weaved together by the common thread of anti-establishment.Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania saw his 30-year career in the Senate come to an abrupt end at the hands of Rep. Joe Sestak despite being endorsed by President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and just about every big-name Democrat. In Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell failed in his attempt to crown Secretary of State Trey Grayson the GOP Senate nominee in the race to succeed retiring Sen. Jim Bunning. Grayson lost in a landslide to Rand Paul, whose campaign was fueled by Tea Party activists.Meanwhile in Arkansas, Sen. Blanche Lincoln failed to beat back a challenge from the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and will face Lt. Gov. Bill Halter again in a primary runoff. Round two takes place June... | |

| Will they never learn? | | http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/05/18/94386/senators-load-financial-overhaul.htmlWASHINGTON — Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., wants the government to finish building the 700-mile fence between the U.S. and Mexico. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., wants to end the health insurance industry's antitrust protection. West Virginia's two senators want help with mine and oil rig safety. They all want to add these things to the financial regulatory overhaul bill that's moving through the Senate, even though their ideas have little or nothing to do with oversight of financial markets.Senators have proposed 326 amendments to the bill, whose chief purpose is to revamp the system that's regulated financial institutions since the Great Depression, but failed to prevent the current deep recession. The bill could be the last major legislation this Congress approves — and draw enormous media attention — before November's congressional elections. That's why it's attracting a lot of extraneous amendments."A lot of senators see this bill as a good forum, and they see the session winding down after this," said David Arkush, the director of Congress Watch, a watchdog group.Christopher Dodd,... | |
