Do you do anything special to conserve gas now that it's gotten so expensive?
My Ford Explorer, which averaged 15-19 mpg, has died. I bought a new car, a VW Golf that is smaller and gets about 35 mpg. While it is not the big hunkin SUV I've been accustomed to, it sure is nice to top off the gas tank at 10 gallons and then driving 350 plus miles than chugging almost 20 gallons to fill up the Explorer tank.
I also combine my trips now. When I freelanced I would drive here and there without thought. Now I schedule interviews and photo shoots back to back so that I take care of them all on one trip.
I also don't commute to work five days a week. I spend two or three days working out of the house.

We are down almost 7 inches and are in a drought condition here in west virginia. My poor garden is just looking sick!The weather says that we should get a possible squirt or two today, but as of yet, I have only felt a sprinkle here and there. I have been through 15 and it is hard but I think NY in the fall, the Southern states in spring and out west in summer. I don't like traveling in winter. I prefer to stay home where it is warm by the fireplace.:) | |
| | Applesauce Cookies - Gifts In A Jar | | Well, winter had finally reared it's ugly head in West Virginia. We had 2 inches of snow when I got up this morning and got an addional 2 inches just while I was in church. I personally hate winter. The good thing about winter is that it is a wonderful time to bake homemade goodies. This is a wonderful recipe for Applesauce Cookies. You can make them for you own pantry or they make great gifts in a jar. The directions are printed so you can easily make gifts with them. The tag is even printed out for you. Hope you enjoy them even if you decide to keep them all for your family. APPLESAUCE COOKIES - Gifts in a jar1 cup brown sugar
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup raisins
3/4 cup chopped nutsCombine flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda - stir
well. Place flour mixture in a clean mason jar. Pack down
tight so everything will fit in the jar. (Use a spoon
or a mallet.)
Add other ingredients, one item at a time, packing
each layer down.
Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the
lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid... | |

We've had minor earthquakes. It's a scary experience to feel the ground shaking under you. We try to remember to get in the doorway and cover our heads. Sometimes we just freeze tho. | Did your state pass new laws at the beginning of 2007? | | I was not aware of my state passing new laws til I saw this article on CNN.com that some states are raising their minimum wages, which I think is great since the cost of living everywhere seems to be going up. I think all states should raise their wages up to help people survive. What do you think? My state is raising their minimum wage?
